SPL: CELTIC 5 DUNFERMLINE 1: 25/02/98

Totally outclassed and outplayed both players and fans wished they had stayed out of Celtic Park. Watching Barnsley dump Man United out of the FA Cup now looks the sensible option. But for the visiting supporters in the 48,502 crowd of which Celtic probably made up all but the 502, the performance they witnessed was a humiliation. Dick Campbell later described the performance as naive.

Colin Miller returned after axing to assume a new role in central midfield, Richard Huxford was thrown into the lion’s den with a debut that made Harry Curran look international class. Craig Ireland came back for only his second game of the season and no matter how bad Ivo had been last week he would have been better on the park instead of sitting amongst the Dunfermline supporters.

Things have to improve for Dunfermline who saw Motherwell overtake them into 8th position in the league. Of the ten remaining Premier games this season two are against the Steelmen and the only other hope of points, based on this performance, have to be against Hibs.
